Course 1 – Class 2

April 14, 2009

Last night was the second class of the Wilton Course 1 I am taking.

We were supposed to bring at least an 8″ cake iced and ready to go.  Here was my first attempt at that:

I chose a pale blue because I knew we were doing the “rainbow cake” and I didn’t want a plain ole’ white cake.

When we got to class, some people were more prepared than others.  I was in the middle.  We had one person who hadn’t actually iced her cake yet all the way up to one person who had all of their icing colored and already in the bags.  I had my icing ready, but not colored or in the bags.  Next week I hope to be more prepared!

We went over the practice sheets for this lesson (I’m not the greatest at stars, but I’m not too bad with writing), and then we got to the meat of the lesson (haha, meat in cake) and actually applied the rainbow transfer to our cakes, and got to decorating.  I didn’t quite finish my cake in class, but I finished it as soon as I got home.  I was rather pleased for my first decorated cake.  I took it to work this morning (we do NOT need a cake around this house, especially with all the leftover Easter sweets etc. we still have here) and they didn’t think I had decorated it, so that made me feel sort of good.  It must not have tasted too bad either, because half of it was eaten today, and I was asked to bring it back tomorrow.

So, without further adieu, here are some photos of my first cake!

And this is what was left after my coworkers got a hold of it:

As small as our workplace is, I’m actually surprised that they ate that much, but more power to them, I am trying to get rid of it after all!  All in all a fun class last night.  I’m glad that I’m taking it, and am looking forward to next week (even if it is a cake with clowns :p)!

  1. Looks yummy!

  2. It is pretty cute. I think it needed a smiley face sun on it though. For some reason a smiley face of some sort just seemed necessary when I first saw it. You’re gutsy with the tinted base layer. I hate doing colored icing underneath because it often likes to marble on me!

  3. Nice Cake! I’m also in course 1 of the Wilton cake decorating classes and it’s neat to see how other people make variations of the same design!
