Course 2 – Grand Finale

June 17, 2009

I apologize, this post is LONG overdue.  However, we all know what it’s like to get busy.

For this cake we made an oval cake with the pans that were included in the student kit because there was a template for doing basket weave on this particular cake.  Since it was the first time for any of us trying basket weave, that did at least make it a little easier.

So, we brought in our iced cakes for class.  I decided to make mine a chocolate cake with vanilla pudding filling, and almond flavored butter cream.

We practiced the basket weave for a little while and then proceeded to ice the cake with that technique.  Once you get the hang of it it’s not so bad.  Then we used the rope border to finish it off.  After that we covered the cake with all of the different flowers we’d made throughout this course, and the color flow birds (or butterfly in my case).

I was rather pleased with how this cake turned out, especially for my first attempt at all of this!

It was almost a shame to cut it, but it sure was delicious!

  1. I really like your butterfly – that was such a good and different idea! I also like your red flowers – I’m afraid to use that much dye!

  2. The flowers are amazing! Great job.
